Today’s Review is from The Buccleuch in Dalkeith, Midlothian.
I have eaten at The Buccleuch many times now and I have never had a problem until today.
The staff were very friendly and well presented.
The food arrived nice and warm. With the plates being clean and white.
This had been the first steak pie that I have ever had with a hot water crust pastry. I thought this is something different, maybe the way forward and away from the puff pastry.
The pie was served with creamy mashed potatoes and garden peas. The mash and peas we cooked to perfection.
The pie looked amazing from the outside, but once I had cracked open the crust, I was soon disappointed. The crust was about 1/6th of an inch thick, which soon put me off. The meat was also overcooked and hard to chew.
As I love my food I did eat the full portion as I hate to see food wasted, but I would probably not order this again.
I feel this could possibly be one of the worst steak pies I may have ever had.
I would have to mark this dish on the following:
Taste: 6/10 (boosted by the potatoes and peas.)
Total Score: 19/30
